Brief

Gestures, uses, contexts, habits and, in some cases, dyslexia. The approach to reading a paper book is a highly subjective component, varying from person to person and changing from generation to generation. In the field of print publishing, new needs, or rather a broader concept of accessibility, must be taken into account.

But is it possible to ensure good legibility of the main text of a print book that can get an adult-age audience to agree? And in what way?
From these questions comes Dysgraphic Design, an academic thesis of the Biennium of Visual Communication Design at the Academy of Fine Arts of Catania.

Concept

Based on scientific research, statistical data, and editorial best practices, guidelines for high legibility in editorial design for adults have been compiled.
From such research comes a guide for accessible and inclusive editorial graphic design, through a self-assessment from 0 to 10 (High Legibility Index) that ensures a relaxed reading experience for the main text of a book, all while preserving the design choices most appropriate to the identity of the publishing product.
