Brief
Contemporanea – la Sicilia di nota is a publishing series born from the collaboration between the magazine Notabilis and the publishing house Sampognaro & Pupi. The collaboration stems from the need to create an editorial product that would recall the magazine but with a contemporary aspect and aimed primarily at an audience of millennials. Each tome deals with a thematic collection of articles extrapolated from past issues of the magazine.
Concept
In the research phase, similar publishing products were analyzed, such as the Cose spiegate bene editorial series from the publishing house Iperborea in collaboration with Il Post, and magazines with geometric illustrations, such as Norme & Tributi from the daily newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore.
The graphic design focuses on the contemporary-tradition dualism. The geometric illustrations of the volumes represent a visual summary of the subject matter.

On the cover of the first tome, Battibecchi (Beats), a geometric composition was created: a triangle (in the shape of Sicily) superimposed on a circle creates the representation of a beak and, as a whole, defines the profile of a person who is animatedly communicating something.
The typefaces used (Bebas Neue, Times New Roman, Courier New) recall the typography of newspapers, magazines, and typewriters. Micro-typography and macro-typography of the design are designed to contribute to the immersive reading of the content and to promote legibility and usability of the object book through wide margins and line spacing.
The division into sections is represented by full-page geometric illustrations through the use of colors from the reference palette of the volume in question.
